İzzet Derkan was born on 27th May, 1969 in Akıncılar, North Cyprus. Mr. Derkan commenced his profession in aviation industry by joining Ercan Airport, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), as an Assistant Air Traffic Controller in 1993. In 30 years, he acquired many skills and experiences in the field of aviation. In 1995, he graduated from DHMI (State Airport Authority – Turkey) specialised in Air Traffic Control Management. Since 2012, he has been working in the Air Traffic Control as a team supervisor. Therefore, Mr. Derkan has a decorated career and invaluable knowledge in the airport and air traffic management. Mr. Derkan decided to strenghten his practical expertise with theoretical knowledge; hence graduated in Economics from Eskişehir Anadolu Open University in 2013 and he received his degree in Public Relations from the Open University in 2016. Author Derkan, completed his MBA degree from University of Mediterranean Karpasia with his thesis titled “International Airports and Case Study of Ercan Airport” and currently proceeding his educational career studying towards his PhD degree.
Mr. Derkan is an active member of the Air Traffic Control Association for 26 years, and during his four terms of presidency of the association, which lasted for 10 years, Derkan has been awareded numer of certificates for his active participation in workshops and conferences.
